BUILDING DESCRIPTION

At Castiadas, in the province of Cagliari, an elegant and exclusive residential complex under construction has been conceived as an ancient hamlet where the architecture of the housing units is inspired by Nuraghic and Roman Sardinia.

The village is located close to an offshoot of the Sette Fratelli nature reserve, one of the largest in Sardinia, which stretches as far as the sea. It lies on a gentle sea-facing slope near the beautiful beach of Cala Sinzias, to which it is connected both via a pedestrian path and a shuttle service.

The project design bears the signature of the well-known architect Vito Sonzogni and it provides housing units, made from monolithic stone, local materials in full respect of the environment and the original natural context, which is preserved in all its features.
The villas, prestigious from the point of view of quality and architectural design, typify the pleasing union of setting and architecture.

The functionality and the architecture of the houses were inspired by motifs that evoke the land of Sardinia in Roman and Nuragic times.Every detail is embellished by granite sculptures, well-maintained green areas and compatible architectures. The typological housing model makes out an organic hamlet at community’s service.

The villas, characterized by absolute privacy and calm, are connected to one another by paths and squares, wherefrom one can admire the typical Mediterranean landscape of Sardinia.


The Architect
Vito Sonzogni was born in Valle Brembana (1924, Zogno). His professional and political life coincided with the years of Italian post-war reconstruction.  Fortified by the teachings of the masters, such as Wright and Le Corbusier, he began at that time to design and draft projects in the light of one specific guiding principle:  “if you want to build the future, then keep your eyes on the present”.
Sonzogni anticipated the great infrastructures which only today are being realised before our eyes.  From the very beginning, his professional activities were prolific:  schools, churches, civil buildings, a multitude of residences. First the house as the primary locus of man’s existence, to be designed above all in deference to the nature of the place where it will be positioned. This, he observes, is what makes cities beautiful: culture and not building regulations.  In Sardinia, which he fell in love with at first sight, he undertook to build the Villaggio di Castiadas in accordance with his unmistakable style, as in the case of all his previous projects on the island including the exclusive residential village of Domus di Pitrizza on the Emerald Coast: residential buildings which have left their mark and have received prizes and recognition on the island.
